DOWNLOADABLE
AUDIO BOOKS AND E-BOOKS
The library subscribes to a downloadable audio and
e-book service for our patrons. You use your library card number to log into the site. You can
check out books for a week or two and download them to your home computer for listening or
reading. The book files become unplayable after the loan period expires.
If the book you want is being used by another patron,
you can place a hold and be notified when it's your turn to borrow the book.
Audio and e-books might also
be transferable to portable devices such as an Ipod or an e-reader, but not all file types are
compatabile with all devices. Look here for a list of compatible
devices.
You can access the Overdrive service simply by linking to
the site and logging in with our library name and with your library card bar code
number.
The service has its own search and access
software you can download from the site without charge.
The library also has a number of
workstations you can use to download books that are especially useful if you home Internet
connection is slow.
OVERDRIVE
The Overdrive audio collection is a cooperative
effort of a number of Indiana public libraries called the Indiana Digital Download Center.
Participating libraries select the titles purchased. Access to titles in the core collection is
shared by the patrons of all of the libraries.
Libraries also have the ability to purchase
additional titles for the exclusive use of their patrons. These titles are in a library's
Advantage collection. Log in to the Advantage area for titles
purchased just for the use of our patrons. New titles will continue to be added every
month.
In addition to the Quick Start Guide, you can find a
link to a Guided Tour of the service on the Overdrive Home Page.
Overdrive has a collection of additional e-books available to
patrons at any time that do not expire. These titles are EPUBS and can be accessed with
software you can download for free - Adobe Digital Editions.
