FUNCTIONS
The Technical Services Department is
responsible for fulfilling the duties of material ordering, acquisitions, cataloguing, and fund
accounting. All library materials are ordered, received, invoiced, and checked for defects in the
department. Books, audio-visual materials, such as DVD’s videocassettes, compact discs, CD-ROMS,
audiocassettes and CD books, toys, paperbacks, and periodicals are catalogued using MARC 21 format,
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. Materials are then processed
for circulation and sent to the Thomas Library, Hageman Library and Brown Mansion.
Technical Services is generally not
responsible for the selection of material for the library. Material selection is usually performed by the
supervisors of our public service departments because they interact directly with our patrons and their
needs.
LOCATION
The Technical Services Department is located at the Library Services Center, 100
