Enjoy the Library and have a bit of free time to share? We welcome friendly, reliable volunteers for a variety of projects, and we annually host a special event for volunteers as a way to say thank you. Background checks are performed on all volunteers and training is provided.

If you are detail-oriented and like quiet work, you might enjoy these projects:

Shelf Elf

Help us keep our books and other materials in order, so that patrons and staff may easily find them. This project asks a commitment of one hour per week during Library hours.

Friends of the Library

Get the first peek at book and other donations as you sort, select, and get them ready to be sold at our semi-annual book sales. Plus, active Friends of the Library volunteers receive free individual annual memberships. This project asks a commitment of one hour per week, typically during Library hours, and willingness to assist during book sales.

Museum Research Assistant

Assist with photo digitization, transcribing historic records, artifact registration and cataloging, and conducting topical research. Must be comfortable using a computer. This project asks a commitment of one hour per week during Museum hours.

If you are outgoing and like to talk and work with others, you might enjoy these projects:

Reading Mentor Program

Meet at the Library with K-12 students during the school year to help them improve their reading skills. This project asks a weekly commitment of one hour, one day per week, Monday-Friday, between 3:30-5:30pm. (Students who would like to apply to be mentored, please complete the student registration form and bring it to the Thomas Branch.)

Museum Guide

Lead tours of the historic Brown Mansion for scheduled groups and walk-ins. This project asks a commitment of one Saturday or Sunday per month, from 1-5pm.

Program Assistant

Assist with activities during large events on an as-needed basis. Be part of the Pioneer Trail at the Museum, Gingerbread House preparation at the Hageman Branch, or the Toddler Prom at the Thomas Branch. These volunteers may only be called a few times per year.
